The term computer has many defiitions. The easiest to understand and remember is - a computer is an electronic device designed to manipulate so that useful information can be generated.

- it needs outside intervention for it to run
- it can only do things for which it was designed.

- it is made up of electronic circuit
- it runs on electrical energy.
It is automatic
- Once started, it continues to run without outsideintervention.
It can manipulate data
- following specific rules, it can perform arithmitic functions such as addition , substraction, multiplication, and division.
It has memory
- it has the capacity to remember what it has done.
- it can store instructions in its memory and follow these though unaided.
It had logic functions
- it can be given a set of instructions which tell what it must to do and how it must do them.
- it can produce results upon completion of these instructions.
